*Tekram/LSI Logic NT Setup
*Fix for PCI multifunction devices(Tekram SCSI cards) and certain video cards.
**********************************************************************

When installing Windows NT on an Intel based PC using a multifunction
PCI device such as a SYM53C896 or SYM53C1010 based SCSI controller,
(Tekram DC-390U2/U3 series Host Adapters) and certain other PCI devices
such as a PCI or AGP video card, the Windows NT setup will cause the
computer to halt after the first reboot, when the Hardware Abstraction
Layer (HAL) is loaded.
To solve the problem, simply follow the procedure below to install
winnt patch for your SCSI cards:

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
-----------------------

1. Download the sp6hal.zip file from the IntraServer/LSI website.
(ftp://ftp.lsil.com/pub/symchips/scsi/scsidocs/sp6hal.zip)

2. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a floppy diskette and label
it Manufacturer Supplied Hardware Support Disk.

3. Start the Windows NT setup the way you normally would.

4. Press the F5 and F6 key when the screen displays "Windows NT Setup."

Note: Be sure to press the F6 key as any driver loaded later in
the installation process is not recognized by the Windows
setup. If F6 is not pressed, all devices controlled by the
drivers are not available during Windows NT setup.

Later in the installation process, if F6 was pressed, Windows NT
will ask you to press 'S' to add other mass storage device drivers
that will be loaded during the installation process.

5. Press S and insert the ITI/LSI Software Distribution Diskette into
the floppy drive and press <ENTER>.

6. Select the appropriate driver.

During the first phase of the installation, Windows NT will display
a list of detected hardware and software. One of the items on this
list is "Computer."

7. Make a note as to the type of computer that Windows NT has detected
at this point.

8. Highlight the "Computer" entry and press <ENTER>.

Windows NT setup will display a list of computer types to choose
from.

For Intel D845BG M/B, select the:
e_isa_up = "Standard PC [SP6a]"

9. Select "Other."

10. Choose the SAME computer type that Windows NT detected and you
recorded in step 7.

The descriptions on the disk will match those supported by
Windows NT, but will have [SP6a] at the end.

For example:

Windows NT detected and you recorded:

Computer: MPS Uniprocessor PC

Select from the floppy diskette:

MPS Uniprocessor PC [SP6a]

11. Continue with the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 installation procedure
at this point.

This will load the updated HAL file instead of the HAL that is on the
Windows NT installation CD-ROM. The updated HAL fixes the PCI configu-
ration process in Windows NT that causes setup to fail with PCI multi-
function devices and certain video cards.
